CYPRUS INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY (CIU) was established in 1996. It is a modern, innovative institution providing for its students a centre of excellence of international distinction. With all its academic and social activities, the University's prime commitment is to provide educational facilities to satisfy the needs of a modern technological society. Thus, whilst these needs are broadly provided, CIU has developed a deliberate policy of making its courses practical and relevant. CIU emphasises individual attention and care for its students. With its outstanding international academic staff, CIU is concerned particularly with the quality of its teaching, the employability of its graduates and the application of its research expertise for the benefit of the community. With its internationally accredited programs and modern campus, CIU attracts students from all over the world.
CIU is composed of four faculties, an institute and a vocational school, offering seventeen bachelor's, three Master's and three associate degree programs. A student faculty ratio of 9:1, outstanding teaching facilities, and a state of the art resource and technology centers make the university the first choice for national and international students.
Teaching methods at CIU vary considerably from one department to another and reflect the nature of the discipline, but most modules usually involve formal lectures, discussions and seminars. In most areas, computer-based learning technology is also used extensively as well as practical or laboratory / studio based activity.
All faculties and programs of CIU are officially recognized by the Higher Educational Council of Turkey (YÖK) as well as by the Ministry of National Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and the Higher Educational Accreditation Commission of TRNC.
The University Grants Commission of Pakistan (UGC) has also accredited the related programs of CIU.
Cyprus International University (CIU) is located on the island of Cyprus at the east of the Mediterranean Sea with Nicosia as the capital city since the era of the Lusignans. With Gothic and Ottoman architectural forms Nicosia has a cosmopolitan style.
The University campus is 11 km. from Ercan Airport, 30 km. from Kyrenia, 50 km. from Famagusta and 40 km. from Güzelyurt. CIU is situated in Ortaköy, Lefkoşa. The city center is only 5 km. away from the campus.
Both airlines and shipping can be used for transportation from Turkey to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Cyprus Turkish Airlines and Turkish Airlines have direct scheduled flights to Ercan Airport (TRNC) from Istanbul and Ankara, Turkey. Sea transportation is also available from Mersin and Taşucu, Turkey, to Kyrenia and Famagusta harbours, TRNC.
